Your car is stalled on a railway crossing and a train is approaching. What should you do first?
A car is stalled across railway tracks with a train approaching from the left. Labels identify the car and train.
Correct answer: Get everyone out and well away from the tracks.
Why
Get all occupants out and away from the railway immediately. Keep clear of the tracks and move toward the side from which the train approaches, away from where collision debris may travel. Once safe, report the emergency using the railway emergency number and crossing location shown nearby, or call 911. Do not return to retrieve belongings or try to move the car while a train approaches.
