Passing target: 20 correct signs and 20 correct rules
An unsafe-driving incident has moved a driver into the Safe Driver Recognition Penalty Zone. The driver pays the assessed financial penalty. What happens to the safety rating just because that payment was made?
Correct answer: Nothing; only incident-free years move the rating back up.
Why
Paying a Safe Driver Recognition penalty does not buy back the lost points or erase the incident. SGI's scale improves through incident-free driving. Each incident-free year moves a driver one point toward the Safety Zone, and after three consecutive incident-free years a driver still in the Penalty Zone returns to neutral. The driver must still pay any amount owed and meet any separate licence or program conditions.
