Passing target: 20 correct signs and 20 correct rules
A approaches a horse and rider. Oncoming traffic prevents a safe pass. What should the driver do?
Blue car A follows a horse and rider on a rural road. Silver car B approaches in the opposite direction.
Correct answer: Slow down and wait until the rider moves aside and a pass is safe.
Why
Reduce speed when approaching an animal on or near the road. SGI advises waiting for a horseback rider to move the animal across or to one side and indicate that it is safe to pass. Do not sound the horn and risk panicking the horse. A rider’s indication does not remove your need to check oncoming traffic and leave safe clearance.
