Passing target: 20 correct signs and 20 correct rules
A moving snowplow ahead is throwing up snow that hides the road beyond it. What should you do?
Correct answer: Slow down, stay well back and pass only when it is clearly safe.
Why
A snowplow can create a local whiteout and travels slowly while clearing or treating the road. Reduce speed, stay back and do not pass without a clear, safe path. A separate maximum of 60 km/h applies when passing a snowplow stopped on the highway with blue and amber warning lights flashing; a lower posted limit or unsafe conditions still require a lower speed. The stopped-equipment rule does not apply to traffic on the opposite roadway of a divided highway.
