Passing target: 20 correct signs and 20 correct rules
A person drives a borrowed car on a highway while their driver's licence is suspended. Does the car being owned by someone else prevent an unauthorized-driver impoundment?
Correct answer: No. The vehicle can be impounded even if the suspended driver does not own it.
Why
Driving on a highway while suspended can lead to an unauthorized-driver impoundment of the vehicle being driven, including a borrowed vehicle. The owner's consent does not authorize the suspended person to drive. SGI places towing and storage costs on the vehicle owner, who may seek lawful recovery from the driver. Limited early-release circumstances do not make ownership an automatic exemption.
