Passing target: 80% (24/30)
You come to an intersection with a stop sign at every corner. A van on the road to your left had already stopped before you got there. As you stop, a car stops at the same moment on the road to your right. In what order should the three vehicles go?
Blue A faces north at the south stop line. White/silver van B faces east on A’s left, and silver car C faces west on A’s right. Four STOP faces control the approaches. The card gives arrival facts only: B stopped earlier; A and C stop together.
Correct answer: The van first, then the car on your right, and then you
Why
At an all-way stop, every driver must come to a full stop, and the drivers then take turns in the order in which they arrived. SDCL 32-26-13 settles a tie: the driver on the left yields to the driver on the right. Even when it is your turn, make sure that the other drivers wait for you, and yield to any pedestrian or vehicle that is still in the intersection.
