Passing target: 80% (24/30)
Two lanes narrow to one lane at a work zone ahead. A loaded tractor-trailer is in the other lane, just behind you and to your side. What should you do?
A is in the closing right lane. Loaded truck B occupies the adjacent lane with its front just behind A; cones close A’s lane ahead.
Correct answer: Slow down, let the truck go ahead, and merge behind it with a safe gap
Why
Under ideal conditions, a loaded truck at 55 mph needs more than one and a half times the distance that a car needs to stop. Work zones often bring sudden slowdowns, so a car that cuts in front of a truck there leaves the truck no room. Stay out of the truck's No-Zones and give it extra room at the front.
