You are stopped at a red light in the right lane. A tractor-trailer ahead of you signals a right turn but swings to the left first, which leaves space between it and the curb. What should you do?
Blue A is stopped behind a tractor-trailer at a red signal. B is offset left ahead of the right-hand corner, leaving the stated curbside gap. The card identifies B’s right turn signal.
Correct answer: Stay behind the truck, and do not move up until it has finished its turn.
Why
Trucks and buses need extra room to turn, and they sometimes use space from other lanes to clear the curb. The driver may not see a car that moves into the gap on the right. Many crashes with large vehicles happen at intersections, so give them space.
