You took an over-the-counter allergy medicine this morning. The label warns that it can cause drowsiness, and now you feel slow and sleepy. Which statement is correct?
Correct answer: A drug that makes you drowsy can impair your driving and lead to a DWI charge
Why
Many over-the-counter medicines, such as antihistamines and cold medicines, cause drowsiness, and a normal dose can slow your reactions and judgment. In Texas, "intoxicated" includes not having the normal use of your mental or physical faculties because of any drug, and the fact that you were entitled to use the drug is no defense. Read the label, ask a doctor or pharmacist when you are not sure, and do not drive until you know how a medicine affects you.
