Safe & Responsible DrivingStandalone practice
Sam drank four beers at a party. Thirty minutes later he drinks two cups of black coffee and takes a cold shower. He says he feels alert and ready to drive. What is true?
Correct answer: Only time lowers his alcohol level, at about one hour for each drink he had.
Why
Feeling alert is not the same as being sober. Alcohol slows reactions and weakens judgment, and a person who has been drinking often cannot tell how impaired he is. Because the time depends on the number of drinks, body weight and food, the safe plan after drinking is to wait many hours or to ride with a driver who has not been drinking.
