Safe & Responsible DrivingStandalone practice
Leo, 17, drives with his phone in a dashboard mount, connected to the car's hands-free system. His coach calls about practice times. What does Texas law say?
Correct answer: He may not take it, even hands-free, unless it is an emergency
Why
Even a hands-free call takes a driver's attention away from the road, and new drivers have less experience to handle surprises. If Leo needs to talk, he can first park in a safe place. For all drivers, Texas also bans reading, writing or sending electronic messages on a handheld device while the vehicle moves.
