Passing target: 85% (34/40)
You drive at night on a dark rural highway with your high beams on. A car comes toward you in the other lane. At what distance, at the latest, must you switch to low beams?
A drives with high beams on a dark rural two-lane road while B approaches in the opposite lane. No required distance appears in the question.
Correct answer: When the car is 500 feet away
Why
High beams can blind an oncoming driver for a moment, and a blinded driver can drift into your lane. If the other driver does not dim, do not use your high beams in return. Look toward the side of the road and then quickly ahead to check the other car, until you have passed it. In cities and towns, use low beams, except on streets that have no lights.
