Parking, Reversing & Roadside StopsStandalone practice
You must park facing uphill on a rural road that has a gravel shoulder and no curb. How should you turn the front wheels?
A is parked uphill at a gravel edge without a curb. The front wheels have not been set; a side-profile inset shows the grade.
Correct answer: Turn them right, so that a rolling car moves away from traffic
Why
With no curb, turn the front wheels to the right whether you face uphill or downhill. If the car starts to roll, it then moves off the road instead of into traffic. Also pull as far onto the shoulder as possible, set the parking brake and stop the engine.
