Passing target: 85% (34/40)
You drive at 60 mph on an interstate with three lanes in your direction. The limit is 70 mph, and most traffic passes you. Which lane should you use?
A travels in the middle of three same-direction interstate lanes while B passes in the left lane. No final lane choice is marked in the question.
Correct answer: The right lane, except when you pass another vehicle
Why
Virginia law requires slower traffic to keep right, and on a divided highway a driver in the left lane must move right to let faster traffic pass as soon as it is safe. When you pass, use the left lane and return to the right when the pass is complete. Keeping right reduces weaving and conflicts between vehicles at different speeds.
