You park facing uphill on a street with a curb on your right. How should you turn the front wheels?
A is parked facing uphill with a curb on its right. A side-profile inset identifies the slope; the front wheels have not been set.
Correct answer: Turn them left, away from the curb, so that the tire can stop against it
Why
Virginia law requires a driver who leaves a vehicle unattended on a highway to set the parking brake, stop the engine and turn the front wheels so that the curb or the side of the road can stop the vehicle. The manual shows the uphill case with a curb: turn the wheels left, so that the front tire rolls back against the curb if the car moves. Downhill with a curb, turn the wheels right, toward the curb.
