A deer runs onto the road, and you must brake hard. Your car has antilock brakes (ABS). What does the ABS do for you?
A blue car approaches a deer in its lane. The car has ABS; no brake result or steering path is shown. An enlarged detail identifies the deer.
Correct answer: It keeps the wheels from locking, so you can still steer as you brake
Why
With ABS, press the brake pedal firmly and hold it, and steer around the hazard if you need to. You can feel the pedal and the car shake while the system works; this is normal. Practice a hard stop in a large, empty paved lot to learn the feeling.
