Passing target: 80% (32/40)
You drive in the left lane of a street with two lanes going your way. A dashed white line separates the lanes. You want to move to the right lane to turn at a corner ahead. What does the dashed line allow?
A is in the left of two eastbound lanes, with a dashed white divider. Silver B is ahead in the right lane. No lane-change path is shown.
Correct answer: You may cross it to change lanes after you signal and check that it is safe
Why
White lines separate lanes that carry traffic in the same direction, and yellow lines separate opposite directions. A dashed white line lets you change lanes, a solid white line tells you to stay in your lane unless a special situation requires a change, and double solid white lines are a barrier that you must not cross. Shorter, closer dashes warn that your lane is ending soon.
