You park facing uphill beside a curb. How should you position the front wheels before securing and leaving the vehicle?
An uphill profile rises to the right above a parked blue car facing that direction. The lower curb is labeled; A is attached to the car rather than the opposing lane. No wheel-setting inset is present.
Correct answer: Away from the curb.
Why
Turn the front wheels away from the curb when facing uphill beside a curb. Stop the engine, put the transmission in park or a suitable gear, and remove the key. Set the parking brake unless there is a reasonable possibility of freezing, as 13 AAC 02.480 specifies. The curb provides a backup if the vehicle rolls backward.
