On an undivided two-way road, an ambulance approaches with its siren sounding. Unless a peace officer directs otherwise, what should you do when the right edge is clear?
On an ordinary two-way road, a white-and-blue box ambulance approaches behind blue car A with red warning lights flashing and its siren sounding. The roadway edge to A’s right is clear.
Correct answer: Move safely to the right edge and remain stopped until clear
Why
Check traffic, signal and move parallel and as close as practicable to the right curb or edge, clear of intersections. Remain stopped until the ambulance passes and you determine that no other emergency vehicles are approaching. This example is an undivided two-way road; one-way roads and divided roadways with more than two lanes in each direction use the nearest-curb rule. Follow a peace officer’s directions.
