Class 7 licensing and restrictionsStandalone practice
For ordinary private practice with a Class 7L driver, how does the minimum supervisor age change on October 19, 2026?
Correct answer: It changes from 25 to 22
Why
For ordinary private practice through October 18, 2026, the supervisor must be at least 25, have a valid qualifying Class 1–5 licence and sit beside the learner. From October 19 the minimum becomes 22. The supervisor must hold a qualifying licence, be awake and legally able to drive; a new Class 5 graduate must have completed the new zero-alcohol/drug restriction period. Licensed practical instruction has separate provisions.
