A school bus is stopped on an undivided road with its red signal lights flashing. No officer gives a different direction. What must approaching traffic in either direction do?
A yellow school bus is stopped on an undivided road with its stop arm extended. An inset shows red warning lamps. Blue A is behind the bus and silver C approaches from the opposite direction; no rulers or stop instruction appear.
Correct answer: Stop at least 10 feet away until the red lights end.
Why
Stop at least 10 feet from the front when approaching and at least 10 feet from the rear when following or overtaking. Remain stopped until the red signals are no longer displayed, and proceed only when children are safely clear. The opposite-roadway exception requires a safety island or physical barrier; a painted line is not enough. Follow any lawful officer direction.
