Passing target: 80% (20/25)
On a highway with two lanes in your direction, you approach a stationary emergency vehicle with flashing lights on the right shoulder. You are in the adjacent lane and the left lane is safely available. What must you do?
A blue car approaches a black-and-white police SUV stopped on the paved right shoulder with red and blue warning lights flashing. Two same-direction travel lanes are visible on this side of the divided highway.
Correct answer: Slow to a reasonable speed below the limit and move left one lane.
Why
Immediately reduce speed to a reasonable level below the posted limit and move over one lane when reasonable and safe. Do not force a lane change into occupied space. On an ordinary two-lane undivided road, slow below the limit until safely clear rather than crossing into oncoming traffic merely to move over.
