At an uncontrolled crosswalk, a pedestrian has stepped into the crossing ahead. What must you do?
A and B approach a complete marked crosswalk in adjacent lanes. A pedestrian is crossing ahead, and A has room to stop well before the crosswalk.
Correct answer: Yield, and slow or stop so the person can cross.
Why
Yield to the pedestrian, slowing or stopping as necessary. At an uncontrolled crosswalk, the duty begins when any part of the person or specified aid enters, or when a person at the entrance signals an intention to cross by raising a hand or arm toward traffic. Do not pass another vehicle stopped to yield. At a controlled intersection, the separate pedestrian priority lasts to the opposite curb or safety zone.
