Red lights begin flashing at a railroad crossing. What must a driver do?
Blue car A approaches a single-track railroad crossing with the exact US crossbuck. Red warning lights are flashing; no gate or separate stop line is shown.
Correct answer: Stop 15 to 50 feet from the rail and wait until it is safe.
Why
Stop at least 15 feet but no more than 50 feet from the nearest rail when an active warning announces an approaching train. Do not enter until the tracks are clear and it is safe. Never go through, around or under a gate while it is closed or opening or closing. The stop duty also applies when an approaching train is plainly visible and dangerously close, even without a gate or flashing lights.
