Passing target: 15 correct signs and 15 correct rules
You are in the passing lane of a multilane road, faster traffic approaches from behind, and no exception requires you to stay left. What should you do?
On a divided road with two eastbound lanes, blue A is in the left lane. Silver C follows A closely, and B is farther ahead. The right lane is empty in the illustrated segment. The opposite carriageway is outside the view. Positions alone do not establish time gaps.
Correct answer: Move right when a safe lane change is available.
Why
Safely leave the passing lane when faster traffic approaches. Exceptions include traffic conditions, weather, obstructions or hazards, a law or traffic control requiring the lane, a left exit or turn, toll payment, and authorized emergency or highway work. Do not make an unsafe lane change or exceed the speed limit.
