Red lights flash at a railroad crossing. What must a driver do?
A road crosses railroad tracks with a crossbuck and active red warning lights. No car, stopping point, or distance mark is shown.
Correct answer: Stop 15 to 50 feet from the rail and wait until it is safe.
Why
At an active railroad warning, stop at least 15 feet and no more than 50 feet from the nearest rail. Under normal operation, wait until all tracks are clear, the warning lights stop, any gate is fully raised, and crossing is safe. Never stop on the tracks or drive around a lowered gate.
