Passing target: 15 correct signs and 15 correct rules
When may a driver pass another vehicle on the right?
A separated freeway carriageway carries two eastbound lanes beside a median; the other carriageway is outside this view. Blue A is in the right lane, while silver B is farther ahead in the left lane. A continuous white edge line separates the travel lanes from the roadside.
Correct answer: In a permitted case, staying on the main pavement.
Why
Passing on the right is allowed when the vehicle ahead is making or about to make a left turn, or when the roadway has sufficient unobstructed pavement for two or more lanes moving in your direction. Make the pass only when safe. Do not drive off the pavement or main traveled portion to pass; a shoulder is not a passing lane.
