Passing target: 15 correct signs and 15 correct rules
In favorable conditions, how can a Georgia driver check whether the following gap is too short?
Blue A follows silver B on a clear two-way road beside a fixed roadside post. In this starting frame, the rear of B is level with the post.
Correct answer: Reach a fixed point at least two seconds after the car ahead.
Why
Start counting when the rear of the vehicle ahead passes a fixed roadside reference point. The front of your vehicle must not reach that point before the two-second count ends. Increase the gap in inclement weather, construction areas, heavy traffic, and always at night. The count is a basic check for favorable conditions, not a guarantee that any two-second gap is safe.
