For an ordinary passenger-car trip with no exemption, how must a child who is 3 years old be restrained?
Correct answer: In a child restraint with an internal harness
Why
A child age 2 to under 4 must be secured in a rear-facing or forward-facing child restraint with an internal harness. Children under 2 must face rearward. From age 4 to under 10, a harnessed restraint or booster is required, except that ages 7 to under 10 may use a properly fitted lap-and-shoulder belt when taller than 4 feet 9 inches. Follow the restraint’s instructions and fit limits.
