A cyclist is continuing straight near the right side ahead of you. You want to turn right across the cyclist's path. What should you do?
Blue car A approaches a right turn. Cyclist B is ahead in the same-direction bicycle lane along the right side.
Correct answer: Wait behind and turn only after the cyclist's path is clear.
Why
Do not overtake a cyclist and immediately turn right across the rider. Wait for the cyclist to clear the turn conflict, check for other traffic and pedestrians, then turn safely. The handbook also says not to merge into a bicycle lane in advance of a turn.
