What is the minimum lateral clearance an Indiana motorist must leave when passing a bicyclist?
Blue A passes helmeted cyclist B using a clear adjacent lane to the cyclist’s left. Both travel east.
Correct answer: At least 3 feet.
Why
Leave at least 3 feet of clearance, and do not return to the original lane until safely clear of the bicyclist. Wait if a safe pass is not available. Indiana permits passing a bicycle in a no-passing zone only when safe and when the statutory passing and clearance requirements are met.
