Passing target: 20/25 correct (TLA practice target)
You need to cross a rural divided four-lane highway. A median opening is large enough to hold your entire vehicle safely between the two directions. What is the manual’s recommended method?
Blue A approaches a divided highway from the bottom at a STOP sign. Two lanes carry traffic right across the nearer roadway; two lanes carry traffic left across the farther roadway. The paved median opening is large enough for the whole car.
Correct answer: Cross one direction, wait in the median, then cross the other.
Why
When the median safely holds the whole vehicle, cross one traffic direction at a time. Stop fully clear in the median and look for a new gap before crossing or turning into the far direction. If the vehicle does not fit, do not stop where it projects into traffic.
