Why should a driver use a time gap instead of a fixed number of feet at highway speed?
Correct answer: Each second covers more feet at higher speed, so the gap grows.
Why
At a higher speed, your car covers more feet in each second. Keeping the same suitable time gap therefore gives more physical distance than it did at a lower speed. Increase the time interval when visibility, traction or traffic conditions require still more room.
