Parking, Reversing & Roadside StopsStandalone practice
On an ordinary public roadway that is not controlled-access, when may you back a vehicle?
Correct answer: Only when the movement can be made safely and without interfering with traffic.
Why
Back only when the movement can be made safely and without interfering with traffic. Check around and behind the vehicle, look in the direction of movement, move slowly and stop if the path cannot remain clear. A camera supplements direct observation. Backing on either the roadway or shoulder of a controlled-access highway is separately prohibited.
