A motorcycle has stopped at a red signal for a reasonable period. The signal has failed to detect it because of its size or weight. What does Kansas’s specific exception permit?
Correct answer: Proceed with caution after yielding to traffic that is an immediate hazard.
Why
After stopping and waiting a reasonable period, a motorcycle or bicycle may use the statutory exception when the signal malfunctions or fails to detect it because of size or weight. Yield to traffic already in or approaching the intersection closely enough to be an immediate hazard, and proceed cautiously. Also yield to pedestrians lawfully within an adjacent crosswalk and to other traffic lawfully using the intersection. Ordinary delay at a working signal does not establish this exception.
