Freeways & High-Speed RoadsStandalone practice
When should a driver normally begin reducing speed for a freeway exit?
Blue car A is upstream in the left through lane of an eastbound freeway. Silver B is farther ahead in the right through lane, and an empty exit lane branches to the right.
Correct answer: After entering the deceleration lane.
Why
Plan early and move into the deceleration lane before normally reducing speed for the exit. Then slow smoothly for the ramp and its signs, traffic and curves. An emergency or actual traffic conditions can require earlier slowing; the normal procedure avoids unnecessary braking in the through lane.
