You are in the left lane of a one-way street and want to turn left into the left lane of another one-way street carrying traffic to the left. The circular signal is red, and no sign prohibits the turn. What is required?
An empty one-way approach meets another one-way street whose arrows point left. The circular signal is red, and a white stop bar crosses the approach. The header states the red-signal condition. No vehicle pose or turn path is selected.
Correct answer: Stop completely, yield and turn only when the way is clear
Why
The ordinary one-way left-on-red exception requires turning from the left lane of the one-way origin into the left lane of the one-way receiving street, with its traffic flow. Stop completely, yield to pedestrians and traffic, and turn only when clear unless a sign prohibits the turn. A separate rule allows an otherwise permitted right or left turn from either of two turn lanes unless a regulatory sign prohibits it. This circular-red exception does not authorize a turn against a red arrow.
