Passing target: 80% (24/30)
A school bus is stopped with its stop arm and red signals active on the opposite side of a four-lane highway. An elevated barrier separates the two directions. Must you stop solely for that bus?
A raised barrier separates two roadways with two lanes each. Yellow bus 2 has active red signals and stop arm. Silver 1 follows the bus to the left; blue learner 3 faces right on the opposite roadway. No question route is highlighted.
Correct answer: No, the barrier-divided four-lane road is exempt
Why
The opposite-direction exception requires a highway with at least four lanes divided by an elevated barrier or unpaved median. This barrier-separated highway qualifies. A painted median or four undivided lanes do not qualify. The divider condition took effect July 15, 2026. Continue cautiously and watch for children; traffic following the bus still has to stop.
