Parking, Reversing & Roadside StopsStandalone practice
If an emergency forces a driver to stop on a highway shoulder, where should the vehicle be placed?
Correct answer: As far from traffic as practical, with flashers on.
Why
At the first sign of trouble, ease off the accelerator, signal and work toward a safe place off the road; on an interstate, try to reach an exit. Once safely stopped, make the vehicle visible and call for help. Do not stand behind or next to it. If it is safely out of traffic, the guide advises waiting inside with doors locked; if it is in the roadway, wait away from the vehicle.
