Passing target: 80% (24/30)
You approach a stopped emergency or service vehicle displaying authorized flashing lights. What should you do?
Blue car A approaches a black-and-white police SUV B stopped on the paved right shoulder with red and blue warning lights flashing. Two same-direction travel lanes are visible; the left lane is clear.
Correct answer: Move to a nonadjacent lane if safe; if not, slow down
Why
When passing a stationary authorized emergency vehicle using emergency lights or a stationary public service vehicle using its authorized lights, use a nonadjacent lane if possible with due regard to safety and traffic. If that is impossible or unsafe, pass at a careful and prudent speed that is reasonable for the situation. This is not a free choice to remain beside the vehicle at ordinary speed.
