Passing target: 80% (24/30)
After passing another vehicle, when is it generally safe to return to the right lane?
Blue car A is ahead in the left northbound lane after passing silver car B in the right lane. The inside-mirror detail is not revealed before answering.
Correct answer: When the whole passed car shows in your rearview mirror
Why
Use the handbook’s mirror check as a guide to leaving useful clearance, then signal, check the blind spot and return only when safely clear of the passed vehicle. A mirror view alone does not guarantee an adequate gap. When an ordinary pass uses the opposing side of a two-way road, Maine also requires returning to the right before coming within 100 feet of an approaching vehicle.
