Turns, Lanes, Passing & MergingStandalone practice
No sign prohibits a U-turn, but a nearby curve limits visibility. According to the Massachusetts handbook, what minimum sight distance must you and other drivers have before considering the turn?
Correct answer: 500 feet.
Why
Do not make a U-turn at a hillcrest, near a curve or elsewhere when you or other drivers cannot see 500 feet away. Adequate visibility alone is not permission: signs, the available turning room and a safe clear path also matter. Use the lane nearest the centerline and do not create an oncoming hazard.
