Passing target: 80% (24/30)
You follow an empty school bus on a two-lane road. It comes to a railroad crossing that has no lights or gates, and no train is in sight. What should you expect the bus driver to do?
A follows an empty school bus toward a crossing with an exact U.S. crossbuck and no warning lights or gates. No train appears.
Correct answer: Stop before the tracks, look and listen both ways, and then cross
Why
The law requires these vehicles to stop between 15 and 50 feet from the nearest rail, look and listen in both directions, and then cross without a gear change. Because the stop can come with no train in sight, keep a safe following distance behind buses, passenger vans and larger trucks near railroad tracks. A crossing marked with an EXEMPT sign is the exception: these vehicles do not have to stop there.
