Passing target: 80% (24/30)
On a two-lane road with a broken yellow center line, you follow a slow tractor. A railroad crossing is about 80 feet ahead. The gates are up, and no train is in sight. Which statement is correct?
A follows tractor B toward a railroad crossing with gates up. The caption gives the crossing distance as 80 feet. The crossbuck is mounted on an approach-side mast. No passing route is selected.
Correct answer: You must not pass, because the crossing is less than 100 feet away
Why
Near a crossing, you must be able to see the tracks, the warning devices and any train. A car in the left lane near the tracks has no safe place to go if a train comes or traffic stops. Some vehicles, such as buses and passenger vans, stop at all tracks, so be ready for a stop ahead of you.
