Passing target: 80% (24/30)
You drive on a four-lane street. A power outage has turned off the traffic signal at the next intersection: no lights show in any direction, and no officer directs traffic. A car on the two-lane cross street, to your right, reaches the intersection at about the same time as you. What should you do?
Blue A approaches on the four-lane street and silver B approaches from the two-lane street on A’s right. All traffic lights are dark; no officer, stop control or chosen priority path appears.
Correct answer: Treat it as an uncontrolled intersection, and yield to the car on your right
Why
A signal that shows no lights controls no one, so neither street keeps the right-of-way because it is larger or busier. Slow down as you come to a dark signal, because other drivers may not be sure who must yield. If an officer arrives and directs traffic, obey the officer instead of the usual right-of-way rule.
