Intersections & Right-of-WayStandalone practice
You come to an intersection with no traffic signal. A pedestrian who carries a white cane steps off the curb to cross your street. What should you do?
A approaches an unsignalized intersection where B steps from the near curb with a white cane. A labeled enlargement shows the same pedestrian and cane; A has no selected stopping action.
Correct answer: Stop and let the pedestrian cross, with no horn or engine noise
Why
Blind pedestrians listen to traffic to decide when to cross. Horn sounds and engine noise can hide those sounds or make the person stop in the road. Wait until the person is safely across, and do not pass other cars that stop for the pedestrian.
