Passing target: 24/30 correct (TLA practice target)
A clearly visible electric warning signal indicates a train is approaching a railroad crossing. Within what range must you stop from the nearest track under Mississippi law?
A approaches an active railroad warning with red lamps on the crossbuck mast. No stop-distance value is printed in the question image.
Correct answer: At least 15 feet but no more than 50 feet.
Why
Stop within 50 feet but not less than 15 feet from the nearest track when a visible warning signal indicates the immediate approach of a train or other on-track equipment. Do not proceed until safe. Stay stopped while a gate is lowered or a flagger continues to signal an approaching or passing train. The handbook on page 36 prints “fifty to ten feet,” but current Mississippi Code section 63-3-1007 requires at least 15 and no more than 50 feet for this active-warning stop. Follow the current Code range.
