Weather, Visibility & EmergenciesStandalone practice
At highway speed, your right wheels drift off the paved edge onto a soft shoulder. What should you do?
A’s right wheels have left the pavement and reached the shoulder beside the roadway edge.
Correct answer: Grip the wheel, lift off the gas, and return to the road only after slowing
Why
When wheels leave the pavement, the change in surface pulls the car toward the shoulder, and drivers often overcorrect. Slowing smoothly and steering back gently prevents a rollover or a crash into oncoming traffic. Check that the lane is free of traffic before you return.
