A 16-year-old got a first-year restricted license last month. Her car has five seat belts. Her parents and her three younger brothers all want to ride with her. What does Montana law allow?
Correct answer: At most five people, counting the driver: one person for each seat belt.
Why
The same seat belt rule applies while a teen drives with a learner license. Family members and adult supervision change only the teen passenger limit; they never remove the seat belt rule. Montana's general seat belt law makes the driver responsible for belting every occupant, but it excuses an extra rider when all belts are in use; the teen rule has no such exception.
