Passing target: 80% (20/25)
You drive in a narrow lane that is too tight for a car and a bicycle to travel safely side by side. A bicyclist rides near the middle of the lane ahead of you. What should you do?
B rides near the middle of a narrow lane ahead of A. An oncoming car occupies the opposing lane.
Correct answer: Slow down and wait behind the rider until you can pass safely with 3 feet or more.
Why
A bicyclist must ride as far right as practicable, but Nebraska law lists exceptions. One exception is a lane that is too narrow for a bicycle and a vehicle to share safely side by side. In such a lane, a rider near the middle stops drivers from squeezing past too closely. Be patient: slow down, keep a safe gap, and pass only when there is room.
